There are Frank, Robin and Ramona Waghorn of Reefton who came to visit yesterday.
Frank was in the Reefton Volunteer Fire Brigade for something like 40 years; so he has seen a lot of Reefton's history go up in smoke. I said to him that the New Commercial Hotel fire in 1968 was so fierce that it set fire to Cross' 4 Square across the road, but the brigade saved the Hotel Reefton right next to it.
He replied, "Too bloody right we did - bad enough losing one pub!"
cheers
