Let's See if I Can Remember How To do This

Trish, if you're reading this - where's the bleeding camera?

I like these, words of wisdom :

I wondered why the Frisbee was getting bigger, and then it hit me.
Never go to bed angry, stay awake and plot your revenge.
It's not who you know, it's whom you know.
There is no "I" in "Team", but there are four in "Platitude-Quoting Idiot".
A clean desk is a sign of a cluttered drawer.
Follow your dreams, except for that one where you're naked at work.
Marriage is not a word. It's a sentence.
I had amnesia once - maybe twice.
All I ask is a chance to prove money can't make me happy.
How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on.
Two can live as cheaply as one, for half as long.
Is Marx's tomb a communist plot?
Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun. Birthdays are good for you - the more you have the longer you live.
Letting the cat out of the bag is a whole lot easier than putting it back in.
In an argument, a woman always has the last word. Anything a man says after that
beginning of a new argument.
Most nudists are people you don't want to see naked.
If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?
If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?
I like my men like I like my coffee. Ground up and in the freezer.
A fool and his money can throw one hell of a party.
When blondes have more fun, do they know it?
Am I ambivalent? Well, yes and no.
I like cats too. Let's exchange recipes.
Red meat is not bad for you. Fuzzy green meat is bad for you.
All power corrupts. Absolute power is pretty neat, though.
A hangover is the wrath of grapes.
Gun Control: Use both hands.
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.
Despite the cost of living, have you noticed how popular it remains?
Atheism is a non-prophet organization.
Time is a great healer, but a terrible beautician.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.
Support bacteria - they're the only culture some people have.
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.
For every action there is an equal and opposite criticism.
No one is listening until you make a mistake.
The hardness of butter is directly proportional to the softness of the bread.
Monday is an awful way to spend 1/7th of your life.
Two wrongs are only the beginning.
A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory.
Change is inevitable except from vending machines.
Always try to be modest and be proud of it!
Love may be blind but marriage is a real eye-opener.
Man cannot live by bread alone, unless he's locked in a cage and that's all you feed
him.
If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?
"I am." is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that "I do" is the longest sentence?
If man evolved from apes why do we still have apes?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman where the Self Help section was,she said if she told me it would defeat the purpose.
If a man stands in the middle of the forest speaking and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?
Isn't it scary that doctors call what they do "practice"?
What should you do if you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?

That's it.

'Twas a Dark & Stormy Night

And, once again! it won't upload pics.

Suffice to say, we've had some foul weather and lots of minor damage. I HATE bluddy blogggery winds!

I've got lots of photos of horrendous wind damage & you can't see them.

Thanks Blogger

I LIKE this

(She-who-must-be-obeyed has got the camera)

A Gift.....

The other day a young person asked me how I felt about being old. I was taken aback, for I do not think of myself as old.

Upon seeing my reaction, he was immediately embarrassed, but I explained that it was an interesting question, and I would ponder it, and let him know.

Growing Older, I decided, is a gift.

I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be. Oh, not my body! I sometime despair over my body ... the wrinkles, the baggy eyes, and the cellulite. And often I am taken aback by that old person that lives in my mirror, but I don't agonize over those things for long. I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly.

As I've aged, I've become more kind to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to be messy, to be extravagant, to smell the flowers.

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging. Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 a.m and then sleep until -- ?

I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 50's & 60's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love... I will.

I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the bikini set. They, too, will get old. (if they're lucky)

I know I am sometimes forgetful. But then again, some of life is just as well forgotten and I eventually remember the important things.

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when a beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect. I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turn gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face.

So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.

I can say "no," and mean it.
I can say "yes." and mean it.

As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being older.

It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day... (if I want).

Today,

I wish you a day of ordinary miracles.
Love simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.

Leave the rest to God.

Finished!

I do like it when i finish something - probably because it happens so rarely.

Those photos that i posted of every Reefton model, (what a mission that was!), this is why. Now there's little snippets of information around the table for people to read when i'm not there. I do, (kind-of), have a life away from the village & can't be there all the time.

Things are much more interesting if someone tells you what you're looking at.

This is Kate. She typed out all the notices, printed & laminated them. Thanks Kate

Village People!

These are Janet and her boys, Fergus and Mac.

They live down the road from my Girl, in Tapawera village.

Small world, sometimes. Nice to see you Janet.

Finished!

"All I want,is a room somewhere,
Far away from the cold night air.
With one enormous chair, now wouldn't it be luvverly?

"Lots of choclates for me to eat,
lots of coal, making lots of heat.
Warm face, warm hands, warm feet,
Now wouldn't it be luvverly?"

And, that's all done from memory you know. A song from the film My Fair Lady, 40 something years ago. Amazing what's stored away in the back of the brain.

NEway, i think that my new refuge is a bit too luvverly - there were some early visitors yestereday and i missed them! I didn't even know they were there - too busy, being warm. Whoops!

Very Special Visitors

Had a great surprise yesterday when these people came to see the village. These are Pam, who used to stay with the Dobbins family in waiuta, her husband and next-door neighbours, Sandra & her son Gary. Sandra was my girlfriend when we were teenagers, a year or two ago. She's the one who very cleverly photo-shopped that old photo of me into a phot of the village. I was delighted to see them. (Sandra's very short, isn't she?)

No, she's not really - just camera shy - like me!

(Note to my lazy-a. children - Sandra has got Triplet grandchildren!)

Hope that works.

A Perfect Score!

My sort of score. There's another business that has a shed on the On Yer Bike property - Peter Anderson's "Carpet One", carpets and floor coverings. They leave their off-cuts and scraps in a heap outside the shed until there's a load to take to the rubbish dump. Every couple of weeks, i go down and see what i can scavenge - the vinyl scraps make good durable rooves for the model buildings.

Today, i finished painting the new room, for the second time, and went to see what i could find. There were 50, (2 1/2 boxes), of heavy-duty carpet tiles, more than enough to cover the new floor and they are brand-new.

These things don't need underlay, don't need laying, you just cut 'em to fit and lay them down. Voila! - instant floorcovering. Brilliant.

Thanks Pete.

Happy Birthday Mrs. Queen

Today was the start of the Queen's Birthday holiday weekend, so there were quite a lot of visitors about, despite the weather, (which we won't talk about).

These were some really cool visitors - The boy in the middle is my wee friend, Jarrod. Jarrod was a regular visitor during the last Christmas Holidays, today he brought his family to see the village. That's his brother Callum on his left and their dad on the right.

And, this is Jarrod's mum & sister, Neve. Their family live in Oxford, Canterbury, but their nana's a local, so they're over here for the weekend. Nice to see them. (Callum helped me with some woodwork).
